Thin External Wall Insulation, Lime & CorkSpray - Cumbria

Gavin Belton-Rose

Bank House near Millom, Cumbria is a 600 year old stone built farmhouse which was under total renovation. The walls were 800mm thick, constructed of local sandstone.

The house was painted using exterior paint, but was cracking and peeling due to its coastal location and high aspect to prevailing weather.

Location

Millom, Cumbria

Completion

September 2022

Purpose

The house was cold and damp, and had signs of condensation and mould in the basement of the house. The chimneys all leaked and the back wall was completely needing stripped as did the outhouse urgent attention was required and a breathable insulation system.

Solution

Clean down the structure and repair any failed areas with lime render. We then applied CorkSpray in off white.

Conclusion

We eradicated the damp and condensation issue and stopped the leaks from the chimneys with the cork application. The house now boasts a significant thermal efficiency which will last for years to come without maintenance.
